Medical aid has become the financial lifeline for South African consumers who want to access private healthcare services. With almost 9 million South Africans covered by medical schemes, the private healthcare sector is largely sustained by medical aid. However, consumers often find themselves at the mercy of healthcare providers at one end and medical schemes at the other.

Our goal is to assist the consumers with information about medical schemes and educate members about medical aid cover. Initially established on Facebook in 2012, we launched our website in 2015 to extend our online reach among South African internet users. Our platform is not intended to replace the regulatory authority of the Council for Medical Schemes.

As part of the Adjacent Digital media group, MedicalAids.org.za is not owned or operated by any medical scheme, broker or other financial service provider. We work closely with medical schemes and brokers who are vested in the sustainability of the industry. We also provide a platform for registered brokers and medical schemes to market their services and products.

Consumers are advised to contact the Council for Medical Schemes who have the authority according to the Medical Schemes Act (131 of 1998) to regulate schemes and address member complaints. We may at times focus on specific consumer matters, including member complaints, if we feel the issue has relevance for our audience and the medical aid member population at large.
